Taliban Health Ministry, WHO Discuss Strengthening Tuberculosis Response

The Taliban-led Ministry of Public Health has announced that Noorjalal Jalali, the acting minister, met with Edwin Ceniza Salvador, the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Afghanistan, as well as officials from the central and regional tuberculosis divisions of the organization.

According to the information provided, the meeting focused on strengthening services related to tuberculosis, offering standardized care to patients, increasing funding, improving the effectiveness of diagnosis processes, and enhancing the capacity of healthcare workers.

During the meeting, the acting health minister emphasized that the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis remains a core priority for the ministry and stressed the need for continued expansion of healthcare services in this area.

WHO officials, highlighting their ongoing cooperation, reaffirmed their commitment to providing comprehensive support to the Ministry of Public Health in combating tuberculosis—a matter that demands transparent and practical follow-through, especially given the fragile state of the country’s healthcare system.
